Lovely local treasure this. Another great spoon from the estate of a brisbane collector. Over 100 years old Quensland Sterling Silver (Birm 1912) and enamel souvenir teaspoon with the Queensland emblem. The Queensland Government decided it would be too difficult to reproduce the head of the Queen on a flag. An alternative design, a Royal Crown superimposed on a Maltese Cross, was then submitted to London and approved. It was placed on the Blue Ensign to become Queensland’s State Flag. The State Badge was adopted as part of the state flag on 29 November 1876, and is officially described as “On a Roundel Argent a Maltese Cross Azure surmounted with a Royal Crown”. The spoon is in good condition, measures approximately 12cm long and weighs approximately 9.5 grams. May be collected from My Mother's at Old Petrie Town on a sunday morning, delivered in the Brisbane area by arrangement, or posted. Buyers from outside Australia are welcome, however please contact us before purchase in order to discuss shipping matters.
