c 1910

This is a rare collectable spoon, the like of which I have seen only in the Powerhouse Museum (Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences) and in our cabinet. (We have a larger version also)
Made in sterling silver and set with a Trigonia shell bowl and a map of Tasmania finial in the workshops of noted Tasmanian makers W. Golding and Son, Australia's oldest jewellery firm. (Located at Golding's Corner Hobart since 1875)
William Golding and Son were among the makers of spoons with map-of-Tasmania finials and Trigonia shells as bowls supported by silver mounts that joined the shell to a twisted stem. Inscribed 'Tasmania' on the finial and made about 1910, the spoon is a good example. (See: K. Cavill, 'Commemorative and souvenir spoons of Australian interest, 1894-1994', Australiana, 1994 (4), pp 95-106.)
For further research there's excellent reading at http://www.goldingandson.com.au/history
The back of the Tasmania finial oft this spoon reads STERLING .
It measures approxximately 7.3 cm long and the bowl approximately 18 mm wide.
BUT WAIT...THERE'S MORE!!!!! We also have a larger version of this wonderful historic Tasmanian spoon being sold separately.
May be collected from My Mother's at Old Petrie Town on a sunday morning , delivered in Brisbane area by arrangement, or posted.
Buyers from outside Australia are welcome, however please contact us prior to purchase in order to discuss shipping matters.
