Cute little gadget this.   It is essentially a oval shaped metal band or loop approximately 8mm wide  which functions much like a scouting woggle in keeping a scarf in place. However it has an ornate sterling silver front and a copper back.
The scarf is placed round the neck as usual, and the ends held in the hands. The band is then slipped over the ends of the scarf up to the required position.
To fix the scarf in place, here's what you do. With the fingers you firmly press the hinge in the copper back of the band inwards (see photo 3).  A (patented) mechanism forces the copper part of the band  to immediately spring inwards onto the scarf, thereby fixing the scarf in place.
